THE
GUARDIAN
DAVID HILLMAN,1988
375 x 600 mm / 60 gridded sheets
8-column grid divided into 96 units
David Hillman redesigned the Guardian seventeen years ago. His changes
were to have a profound effect on this newspaper and its competitors.
Hillman's design introduced British readers to two grand innovations:
a mixed font title, and a two-section daily paper, designed on a
96-unit modular system. Since then, the newspaper market - and newspaper
design - has grown in complexity and sophistication. The latest
changes to the Guardian were introduced in 1996 by Simon Esterson
and Mark Porter. |
